Pan African music group, Choplife SoundSystem made up of Mr Eazi and afrobeats selector and tastemaker DJ Edu. ChopLife SoundSystem derives its name from the popular West African pidgin slang phrase "chop life", meaning enjoy life, along with the traditional sound systems that are the backbone of Jamaican parlance and music culture. ChopLife SoundSystem is putting an African twist on sound system culture, incorporating genres like amapiano and Afrobeats to curate the ultimate party experience.
Inspired to take the vibe and spirit of his successful Ghana holiday party Detty Rave on the road, Mr Eazi "soft launched" Choplife Soundsystem with events in Cotonou, Stockholm and Kigali in 2022.
Chop Life, Vol I: Mzansi Chronicles served as the formal introduction to ChopLife SoundSystem, with features from Focalistic, Moonchild Sannely, Major League Djz, DJ Tarico and Joey B to name a few. The project fed voraciously on South Africa's Amapiano with majority of the tracks being highly energetic, catchy and uptempo. It featured songs like the smash hit "Patek", Wena and Werser with Patek being the highest streamed song across all DSPs amassing millions of streams. Production on Chop Life, Vol. I: Mzansi Chronicles was handled largely by Mozambique's DJ Tárico.
The project was followed up with a tour around cities like Barcelona, Amsterdam, London, Paris and Stockholm. Future ChopLife SoundSystem releases will span the map of African club and party music, this will open more room for exploration and blending of different distinct african sounds. The group is set to release more music in 2025, with Mr Eazi once again as the Minister of Enjoyment championing african dance and house music across the entire globe.
